To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, I wanted to focus on the entire series as a whole and celebrate one of the most iconic and enduring franchises ever created. Known as Biohazard in the east. While there are many other survival horror games out there, and way too many zombie games to play, no other franchise has been more influential than Resident Evil. The series has spawned several sequels and countless spinoff titles, but for me the pinnacle of the series is Resident Evil 2. This was one of the first horror titles I ever purchased and played for the PlayStation and it was epic from start to finish! The chilling atmosphere, eerie music and the undead all around was a huge leap forward in gaming and that was all on the first disc! This game had 2 discs and it was almost like 2 full games! You played 2 different characters both on there own missions and I loved how there storylines would intersect at certain points depending on what you had already done with the previous character. The game could be brutally difficult and ammo and health would be extremely hard to come by. This was a unique approach to gaming in that it felt like real survival , you had to think about your actions and be aware of your dwindling supplies or you would not make it out alive. There was nothing like getting past a really hard section and finding a save spot , it was a mini victory in not having to go through that section again. The storyline of the infamous Umbrella Corporation was captivating and the bosses were terrifying, I still remember the first time a licker started crawling towards me upside down on the ceiling . Other games in the series have been good and some not so good but the fact remains that there's always buzz when a new title is revealed. The series has changed and evolved into more of an action horror titles as of late and has gained more fans and lost a few as well, Resident Evil 4 being a huge fan favorite is still one of the most popular titles, the recently released revelations 2 is a great addition as well, the remastered versions of the first few titles are a great nostalgic way to catch up or start the series if you missed out. There are also some oddball titles from the series like Survivor or Dead Aim but overall all the games appealed to fans.If there were a top ten list of gaming royalty the Resident Evil series would definitely be in it. So let us celebrate one of the cornerstones of survival horror, Resident Evil.
