Call of Duty: Repeat

With the news of a new Call of Duty title looming, and the rumors it will be another title set in the distant future, I have to ask the question of why? The past few titles have pushed things into the future realm of lasers, robotic tanks and jet packs. Is this really what the fans want? I personally do not. It has become less military shooter and is slowing turning into a big budget sci fi action game. I miss the real world conflicts that were actually in a history book, or as in the first modern warfare title that was more believable than the current games future setting . World war 2 themes have over done themselves but what about other historic conflicts? Vietnam anyone? Korea, Pearl Harbor, Fallujah, or even the current situations with Afgahnastan or Iraq would be more fitting than another space wars title. And I may be in the minority of fans who are displeased with this trend but over the last few titles sales have slowly declined. Of course the launch of a new title is like an event nowadays and will sell well for the first few months the numbers don't lie over the course of the games lifespan. I think fans want more than the same save the world scenario and cookie cutter multiplayer. It hasn't changed a lot in years, new maps modes and weapons/perks have but when is it time for a full scale overhaul? The three companies that put out the games play it safe in my opinion and look forward to milking the cash cow that call of duty has become. Isn't it time for Treyarch, Infinity Ward or Sledgehammer games to bite the bullet and take a chance and do something so different that it shakes up the series? Or is Activision the real culprit behind it all and not allowing these talented developers the freedom to expand and explore the series? Haven't we as fans spent tons of cash on these games and DLC for the better part of 15 years now? Can the developers not poll the fan base and ask our thoughts on future titles? I still enjoy World at War, Black Ops and Modern Warfare because they still had some believability to them historically, there's tons of true war stories out there to be told that don't have to be like a big budget Hollywood blockbuster movie. Let's hope our voices can be heard and something is done about this or we will see one of the biggest franchises in gaming shoot itself in the foot literally and start going downhill in a hurry once they have exhausted this futuristic storyline trend. Return Call of Duty to its roots and make the game amazing again.
