Modern Retro As games nowadays become more complicated and have lifelike graphics, more and more gamers are turning to the classics of yesterday for there gaming fix. Some call it retro gaming, others just gaming, but whatever it is, more and more people are pulling out there old consoles or rebuying what they once owned years ago for the nostalgic walk down memory lane or introducing there kids to the games they once spent hours on. The earliest days of gaming were simplistic easy to pick up and were often more fun than the complex games of today. Super Mario Bros. Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac Man and other classics are being bought up everyday in retro gaming stores and online stores by the thousands, gamers are rediscovering the games that made them the gamers they are today and it's changing the landscape of the gaming community. The classic titles are now on our smartphones, the online stores of the big 3 consoles and on compilation discs. The huge turn to these games of old are forcing game developers to make new titles under the retro banner, games like Shovel Knight, Enter the Gungeon, Resogun and others are direct acknowledgement of the soaring popularity of replaying these classics. I grew up in the golden age of gaming and being able to dust off my old consoles, blow on the end of a cartridge turn to channel 3 and hit power, Zelda, Punch Out, Castlevania, Metroid, Sonic and others were amazingly simple but so much fun, instead of online multiplayer you have split screen and player 2. The graphics were pretty basic and the controls consisted of 2 buttons and a directional pad but it was still fun. The retro gaming craze I don't believe will burn out anytime soon, with the cost of new consoles, games and online subscriptions, more and more are turning to the old stuff, it's a fun new hobby rummaging thru the attic or hitting garage sales to find a classic game or two at a super low price. There are even new consoles specially made to play the old games, the Retron system has 5 different versions out now and some can play 11 different system games on one system. There are also Kickstarter programs for other retro type systems to be made. It's a great time to be a current gen gamer or retrogamer or if your like me you enjoy both.
