Remastered

The latest trend in gaming nowadays is hd remasters of popular last gen titles, the problem I have with this is most of the current remasters are from games that came out less than a few years ago. The reboot of tomb raider, the last of us and metro,I don't believe are worthy of remasters when they were perfectly fine games on there own. With the news of modern warfare being offered with the new call of duty, I figured this was just another cheap money grab from Activision. After watching a few videos of the making of the modern warfare remaster, I have to say I'm impressed with the result. They have reimagined the game from the ground up and is worthy of an hd remaster. This is a revered game in the legacy of call of duty, and best not to screw it up. Most remasters I've played have only minimal upgrades such as better lighting effects or hair models,is this really worth another purchase? And why are the most current blockbusters the ones getting redone? Modern warfare was released in 2007, that to me warrants a reissue. And how about the classics we all would like to replay in a bigger bolder world? Elder scrolls 3 anyone? Or how about the games that changed the landscape of gaming like grand theft auto 3, or the original legend of Zelda. There have been a few decent remastered releases as of late with Halo Anniversary, Gears of War Ultimate Edition and Resident Evil Origins. These games have upgraded visuals and sometimes new content or DLC included and are good for those who missed them the first time around. But it seems like an easy way to rehash a popular game slightly upgraded for full price instead of creating more original games or dedicated sequels. The fact is people buy up these games regardless of what there truly getting and as long as they sell they'll continue to make them. Let's hope in the future, game companies will poll the public on what WE want as a remaster instead of whatever they want to redo. There are some potentially good remasters coming but how much should they change the original beloved material? Final Fantasy 7 comes to mind, with rumors it's being completely remade in every way possible. The fans will surely buy it but will it lead to different remaster trends? Only time will tell.
